For many years we offered regular trips to Southeast Arizona, but the guides we used no longer offer those trips . That changed this past year when Sue Riffe of She Flew Birding Tours (who leads our popular spring warblers tour) agree to take this one on, too. And we’re delighted she did.
In early August the desert of southeastern Arizona comes alive with fresh blooms as the monsoon season begins. Hummingbirds come up from Mexico and south from their breeding grounds in the states to slurp up the sweet nectar. There is no better place in the U.S. to see as many hummingbird species in a small geographic area! We could see up to fourteen species of these little gems. Terrific range restricted species can also be found in the ‘Sky Islands’ with 170 species expected on this eight-day tour.
The famous birding locations included on this tour are Santa Rita (Madera and Box Canyon), Patagonia (Patagonia State Park), Huachuca (Miller and Ramsey Canyon), Chiricahua (Portal and Cave Creek Canyon), and Santa Catalina Mountains (Mount Lemon).
Cost: $3,295 double occupancy; single supplement $450. A $1,000 deposit secures your reservation.
