Who’s got the best birds — San Francisco or East Bay?
What: The Bay Birding Challenge is a friendly birding event where teams (this year SF and East Bay) compete against each other to see who can raise the most money through supported donations as well as which team can observe the most individual species.
When: This challenge will take place on Saturday, April 9 from 5am to 9pm.
The end date for raising funds to support both teams is April 30 at 11pm. The tally for the total number of birds seen during the Bay Birding Challenge will be revealed on April 12.

Bay Birding Challenge Results
After a long back and forth birding battle between our two Bay Birding Challenge teams over the weekend, San Francisco Count team won in the category of most bird species seen over the course of the day on Saturday, April 9 with 146 individual species recorded. It was a close competition as the East Bay Count team ended their day with 141 individual species seen.
While the count is officially over, the competition to raise the most funds continues between the two teams. Donations can be made up until April 30 (11pm) to either team by visiting their fundraising pages linked below.
If you would like to donate more generally to our spring Birdathon fundraising campaign or to an individual fundraising campaign you can do so here.
Participation: We encourage all participants to use this friendly competition as an opportunity to raise additional funds for Golden Gate Bird Alliance by asking friends and family to donate through the donate buttons below. Supporters can donate more generally by visiting our Birdathon Fundraising campaign page here.
