Encinal Beach
Blustery or beautiful, bayside dune habitat with native plants is a rarity in our area. The East Bay Regional Parks completed a major shoreline project at this northern section of Crown Memorial State Beach in 2020. A small, mostly forgotten stretch of breakwater and sand was restored to upland native plant habitat with improvements to shoreline stabilization and public access. Additionally, a harbor seal haul out platform was installed prior to this project which has attracted a large number of seals. The birds are loving the improvements with 111 bird species recorded in the area on EBird! But now your help is needed to maintain the diverse native plantings to keep it from being overtaken by invasive weeds.
In a special partnership, GGBA members and friends can help maintain this important habitat for our native bird species, as well as other wildlife. Once a month we can gather to pull weeds and clean up trash. Our first program was held in January with the next one coming up Feb. 18 from 1-3:30pm. Won’t you join us to help make this shoreline habitat a wonderful place for birds and wildlife?
