• Calling all nature lovers! Spaces still available for Golden Gate Bird Alliance’s Junior Birders Summer Camp July 18-22.

    Golden Gate Bird Alliance’s award-winning Eco-Education program invites nature lovers ages 9-12 to join us for a fun-filled week of exploring local birds and other wildlife and their habitats. We’ll learn how to identify local wildlife, collect and study aquatic organisms, build bird kites, explore local parks, meet live raptors & mammals, play games, sing songs and more! Sites include Arrowhead Marsh at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Shoreline, Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, Lake Merritt, and the Lindsey Wildlife Museum!

    Our 11 year old education program strives to foster a love and understanding of science and the natural world through hands-on student-led exploration in the outdoors. Our teachers are experienced environmental educators and student-staff ratio is 7:1. If your child loves to have fun and explore in the outdoors, this is the camp for them!

    Program is 9am-4pm; extended morning/evening hours of care available.  Click here to download the flier.

    RETURN OF THE SNOWY PLOVERS

    Please join Golden Gate Bird Alliance and the National Park Service on Saturday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to noon to prepare the Crissy Field Wildlife Protection Area and Ocean Beach in San Francisco for the return of the Snowy Plovers!  Participants can sign in at our table at Crissy Field on the promenade near the Gulf of the Farallones Building  or at  Ocean Beach near the Great Highway and Judah Street.  We will be picking up trash and improving the habitat for the plovers and other shorebirds.

  • Birdathon Winners Announced

    On May 12th, Birdathon 2011 wrapped up with a highly successful awards dinner at the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park.  Guests filled the spectacular room to capacity and enjoyed a wonderful dinner catered by 269 The Arlington, wines by Rock Wall Wines, And great beer from Lagunitas Brewery.

    Top Birdathon awards went to Bob Lewis as Top Fundraising Trip Leader and Glen Tepke as top individual fundraiser.  Winners received donated getaways including a stay at the historic Tallman Hotel in Clear Lake along with a tour of the Six Sigma Winery there, and a four day stay in the mountains near the Stanislaus River at Dorrington.  Second place individual fundraiser went to Chris Bard and trip leaders Eddie Bartley and Noreen Weeden.

    Avid bird-sighting awards went to: The Dippers for most bird species sighted within 24 hours.  Team members were Glen Tepke, Pat Bacchetti, Carol Chetkovich, Mark Rauzon, and Martijn Verdoes.  The top birders in the 4 hour category were the Contra Costa Song Chasers, Denise Wight and Kitty O’Neill.

    And topping the evening, Eddie Bartley and Noreen Weeden swept the Best Bird Awards with their sightings of a Baltimore Oriole in San Francisco and a Black Vented Oriole in Texas.
